Cherry Ingram

Collingwood ‘Cherry’ Ingram first encountered Cherry blossom displays as a young man travelling in Japan in the late 1800s.
When he returned there in 1926 it was obvious to him that variety within the Cherry Tree population was under threat as a national drive to promote a cloned variety was severely damaging the diversity of the species.
This is the engrossing story of how he determined to send rare specimens from his own collection back to Japan using a network of ‘cherry guardians’ ultimately securing the future of the native trees.
